The Kentucky 4-H Centennial is a momentous occasion for the organization that has made a positive, lasting impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of the state’s youths over the years. To kick off a year of celebration, 4-H is planning a birthday bash. It will be Feb. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Lexington.

A reception honoring the contributions of individuals, both past and present, to 4-H will begin at 10 a.m. All former and current members of the State Teen Council, Horse Council, Volunteer Advisory Council, Shooting Sports Council, 4-H Staff and 4-H Foundation board members are invited to attend.

A sit-down luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. All current, past and potential 4-H’ers, volunteers and teens, as well as council members and community leaders, are invited to attend. During the luncheon, one person from each of the state’s counties will be recognized by the Centennial Hall of Fame. These individuals have made significant contributions to the organization at either the local, state and/or national level. Each member’s name and county will be engraved on a leaf of a tree sculpture by louisville artist and 4-H Volunteer Orville Moss that will be unveiled at the luncheon.

Spencer County nominated David Taylor as their representative to the Centennial Hall of Fame.  Congratulations to Mr. Taylor and thank you for your continued dedication to the 4-H program, as well as the entire Extension Program in Spencer County.

A birthday party would not be complete without games and cake. Those in attendance will enjoy a variety of games throughout the afternoon. Games begin at 12:45 p.m., and the centennial cake cutting will be at 4 p.m.

The cost to attend the luncheon and afternoon events is $10 per person. The cost for those who can only attend the afternoon festivities is $2 per person.  To reserve a place at the biggest party of the year, register online at http://www.ca.uky.edu/agcollege/4h/centennial.  Registration fees should be made out to the Kentucky 4-H Foundation and can be mailed to Kentucky 4-H, attn: Stephanie Blevins, 212 Scovell Hall, Lexington, KY, 40546-0064.
