What started out as a random punch thrown between two men at the Mount Eden Mud Bog on Saturday night turned into a drunken brawl that ended with one man being air-lifted to the University of Louisville.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Cresap said the blow knocked the man out, and that when he started to come to and was trying to get up, he was flailing his legs and inadvertently kicked a woman.
When she complained to someone that she had been kicked, the incident escalated and several people became involved at that point.
“From what I can determine, it just became a melee,” Cresap said.
He said the man, who had a metal plate in his head, was beaten about his face and head and knocked unconscious again.
The names of those involved were not released pending charges being filed. No one has been arrested.
Cresap said that even though the man’s injuries turned out to be non-life threatening, he considers the assault to be of malicious intent, because his investigation has shown that at least one person who attacked the man knew he had a metal plate in his head.
Cresap said no arrests have been made because everyone involved in the beating had fled the scene before he arrived.
He said he has turned the case over to Shelby County Attorney Hart Megibben for consideration of charges.
“I turned the report in to him, and he will make that determination,” Cresap said.
The names of the individuals involved will become available after Megibben looks at the report, he said.
Megibben has not responded to phone messages seeking comment.
