 The 160th Annual Meeting of the Nelson Baptist Association (NBA) will be held Monday, October 6, at the People’s Church of Central Kentucky located on Wildcat Lane which intersects with Hwy 62 East (Bloomfield Road) in Bardstown.  Doug Bunch is the pastor.

The afternoon session begins at 1 p.m. with NBA moderator Richard McPheeters, pastor of New Salem Baptist Church in Cox’s Creek, calling the meeting to order. Music will be interspersed throughout the program with the People’s Church presenting special music.

Among the other events of the afternoon session, Morningside Baptist Church, 7212 Arnoldtown Road, Louisville will be voted to receive membership in the NBA. 

Isaac Ferguson, pastor of New Beginning Baptist Church, Bardstown, will give the sermon.

Reports will be given by NBA directors including Lisa Crenshaw, director of the Women’s Missionary Union; Heather Hinkson, director of 2008 Vacation Bible School;  and Harold Smith, area Disaster Relief Coordinator. 

Reports will also be heard from Job Juarez the North American missionary to Hispanics in Nelson, Bullitt, Spencer, Washington, Boyle, and Mercer counties; a representative from the New Life Crisis Pregnancy Center which is located in the Market Place Building in Bardstown; and Barry Allen, president/CEO of the Kentucky Baptist Foundation and representative of the Kentucky Baptist Convention Agencies and Institutions.

During the afternoon session, there will be a special time to remember members of NBA churches who have died since September 2007. Their names will be in print as well as read aloud. A special musical selection will follow the reading of names.

A pot-luck meal from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. will be hosted by the People’s Church.

The Acts 1:8 model will be highlighted in the evening session which begins at 7 p.m. Paul Chitwood, pastor of First Baptist Church of Mt. Washington and a trustee of the Southern Baptist Convention International Mission Board, will give a world view mission’s report. Steve Thompson, assistant executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, will speak regarding KY missions.  Stan Lowery, NBA director of missions, will report on local missions.

The NBA Task Force report regarding restructuring of the NBA will be presented by Stan Lowery.  A vote to make these changes will be taken followed by election of officers in regards to the structural changes.

Nelson Baptist Association is currently composed of over fifteen thousand members in forty-two Southern Baptist churches in Nelson, Bullitt, and Spencer Counties. The NBA office is located in Bardstown at 204 West Broadway.
