A barn fire which engulfed two structures last Tuesday at 5340 Bloomfield Road is being investigated as a possible arson according to Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Chief Nathan Nation.
According to Nation, firemen received a call around 3:25 p.m. July 8 in reference to a structure on fire at 5340 Bloomfield Road, owned by Eugene Herndon. Upon arrival firemen saw two barns on fire and proceeded to attempt to put out the flames.
Nation said that the rear barn was completely engulfed by flames while the front barn only had a minor fire. According to Nation firemen cleared the scene of the two fires at approximately 7:30 p.m. Nation said that after firemen cleared the scene he sent a couple of men back to do a follow up check around 9:30 p.m.
“It was a standard check,” Nation said. “We were looking for any residual hot-spots or embers that might have been left.”
Nation said that after firemen completed their inspection his department was called back out to the same location at 1:30 a.m July 9 for another fire in the front barn.
“We have turned the matter over to Kentucky State Police in reference to an arson investigation,” Nathan said. “It is pretty common practice in these structure fire cases to have KSP involved just to be safe.”
