The Spencer County Bears dropped a 53-50 decision on the road at North Oldham last week. It was a close game throughout with neither team ever building a double-digit lead. The host Mustangs did go up by eight early on, but the Bears fought back to take a narrow lead into the locker room.
It continued to be a nip and tuck affair in the second half before North Oldham again built an eight-point lead with less than three minutes remaining. However the Bears rallied again and had a chance for a tying three-pointer at the end, but the shot just rimmed out to send the Bears to 6-11 on the season.
Coach Jason Burns said his team played pretty well considering they had some players injured during the week and some, like starting guard Jamal Downs, missed the game entirely. “I thought we played hard for as banged up as we are.”
For the game, Estevan Cordoba led the way with 13 points, with Cameron Fitts adding 12. Jamie Newman scored seven and Blake Lambdin added six.
Snow cancelled a trip to John Hardin later in the week so the Bears had a few days to heal and they were to be back in action this Friday at Oldham County and they will host Anderson County next Tuesday.
