Members of the Taylorsville-Spencer County Fire Department work to extricate Zachery D. Burgin of Ashes Creek Road in Bloomfield out of his vehicle early Tuesday morning. According to police, Burgin fell asleep at the wheel while traveling eastbound on Ky. 44. His vehicle traveled 174 feet and crashed into a tree across from the entrance to River Heights Subdivision. He was transported via Spencer County EMS to University Hospital in Louisville. After speaking with Burgin’s relatives Tuesday afternoon, Sheriff Donald ‘Buddy’ Stump said Burgin suffered a broken leg, but is expected to make a full recovery. Stump noted that the Burgin family extends its thanks to the woman who stopped at the scene and stayed with Burgin until emergency personnel arrived, but they do not know her name.
