Bowman chosen to participate in HOBY leadership seminar

-A A +A

Sarah Bowman, daughter of Steven and Connie Bowman, has been selected as the Spencer County High School Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar participant.

Shelby Wakefield, daughter of Bobby and Angela Wakefield, has been selected as the alternate participant.
These students were nominated as HOBY candidates by high school faculty and staff.
Bowman or Wakefield will attend one of two leadership seminars held in Kentucky in early June. The purpose of these seminars is to prepare the country’s high school sophomores to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace and community.
Approximately 7,500 selected high school students from each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Canada and Mexico attend annually.
By presenting multiple viewpoints on important issues, HOBY encourages the HOBY Ambassador to evaluate all issues from a critical perspective. HOBY’s question-and-answer format, small group discussions, hands-on service learning experiences, and assumption of leadership roles enable HOBY Ambassadors to better understand leadership and begin to identify their own particular leadership strengths.
Sessions with specific leadership themes, keynote speakers, and leadership simulation games and exercises complement their individual understanding.
All aspects of the HOBY Leadership Seminar are geared to encourage the HOBY Ambassadors to see leadership as a life-goal worth pursuing. At the conclusion of the HOBY Seminar, the HOBY Ambassador will be encouraged to identify personal goals and make a commitment to achieve one or more within the six months that follow.
As part of HOBY’s commitment to the Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future, HOBY Ambassadors are challenged to complete a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service, annually.
