Cause of infant's death under investigation

The death of a 3-month-old girl two weeks ago is under investigation by the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Buddy Stump said Monday that his office is awaiting coroner and autopsy reports regarding the Jan. 16 death of Zeda Nikole Dean Overturf.
According to an obituary, the infant died in her home. Stump confirmed that his department was dispatched to the scene, but because the investigation is ongoing he could not comment further.
Coroner Danny Hilbert also declined to comment on the death, but confirmed that an autopsy had been performed on the infant. He said he expects to receive the results of the autopsy within two to three weeks.
A spokeswoman for Spencer County’s Child Protective Services office said she could not confirm nor deny whether that office is involved in the investigation, citing confidentiality issues.
Stump said his office routinely is notified and called in when a death occurs in the county. “It’s not an unusual situation,” he said. “We look at every case to make sure there’s no foul play.”
Zeda is survived by her parents, Christopher Overturf and Jessica Young, and three sisters: Katy Young, Leanna Birdsong and Kristina Overturf. A full obituary was published on Page 2 of the Jan. 22 issue of the Magnet.
