Christ can bring and sustain love in your marriage

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

This morning I woke up thinking about real true love. A few month’s ago I was ordained a Baptist preacher. When I got home I told my wife, Roberta, “You know, hon, you have been married to a sheriff, a judge, and now a preacher.” She said, “Yes, but, you know, I married a sawmiller.” I said, “You know, you are right.”

This got me to thinking about what a great love we really have together. Even though we loved the sawmill life, we loved working together. Then I decided to run for sheriff. I’m sure she did not like the idea, but she said if that is what I wanted to do, go ahead and do it. She did not only say that, she got behind me and campaigned for me. You may ask where does this kind of love come from? The answer is very simple. Real true love can only come from Jesus Christ. Forty-seven years ago we gave our hearts to Jesus Christ and when Jesus came into our heart, he taught us what real true love is all about. The first thing was, there is a lot of difference between love and lust. When you lust you only think about the things that are good for you. But when you love with real true love, which can only come from Jesus Christ, we love Jesus more than anything or anybody in the whole world. Then you  know how to love your wife, your neighbor, your enemy, and everyone you come in contact with.

Now let’s look at the Bible and see what it says about love: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.” – Deuteronomy 6:4-6.

If we love God this much we will not have any trouble doing what Paul told us to do in Ephesians as husband and wife. “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of  God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives even as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word. that he might present it to himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing: but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought man to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the Church.” – Ephesians 5: 21-29.

Husbands and wives, if you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your savior, please do so. If you do, He will bring a love to your marriage you never thought was possible. Christians, maybe you are in a backslidden condition with Christ. Look at Revelation 2:4 where Jesus was telling the Church at Ephesus. “Neverless, I have somewhat against thee because thou has left thy first love.” If this has happened, please come to repentance. If you do, everyone around you will feel better, including you.
