COLUMN: 4-H members participate in local communications day

The 2012 Spencer County 4-H Communications Day was Saturday, March 24, at Taylorsville Elementary School.

It was a very successful day filled with enjoyable demonstrations, speeches and great talent acts in the variety show.  The following 4-H members participated, and if they were awarded first place they will be advancing to the Area Communications Day on April 28 in Shelby County at their Extension Office.  First and second place in the variety show get to represent Spencer County at the Area Communications Day.
Junior Food Demonstrations:  1st Place and Blue Ribbon – Kelly Baird demonstrated It Ain’t Easy Being Cheesy.
Junior Science & Natural Resource Demonstrations:  1st Place and Blue Ribbon – Brant Muddell demonstrated How to Catch Bass with Class.
Junior General Demonstrations:  1st Place and Blue Ribbon – Apryl Wood demonstrated Egyptian Mythology: The Legends of Orphens & Isis.
Junior Safety Demonstration:  1st Place and Blue Ribbon – Tyler Moehrke demonstrated How to Prepare for Medical Emergencies.
Senior Science, Engineering & Technology Demonstration: 1st Place and Blue Ribbon – Jacob Barnett demonstrated Model Rockets.
Speech Category (1993):  1st Place and Blue – Danielle Montgomery, “Swine Housing and Equipment.”
Speech Category (1998):  1st Place and Blue – Lilli Hanik, “Iris, Goddess of the Rainbow.”
Speech Category (1999):  1st Place and Blue – Liz Walker, “Snack Nutrition.”
Speech Category (2001):  1st Place and Blue – Noah Dunning, “Peyton Siva – A Great Player of our Time.”
Variety Show Specialty Act: 1st Place and Blue – Danielle Montgomery, “Were You There?” (Clarinet Solo); 2nd and Blue – Leah Shelburne, “Rondo Capriccio” (Flute Solo); Blue – Liz Walker, “Let it Be” (Vocal); Blue – Lilli Hanik, “Arms” (Vocal).  
Congratulations to all participants. Everyone did an outstanding job.
Thank you also to all of the 4-H members, family members, volunteers and judges for making the 2012 Spencer County 4-H Communications Day a huge success.
