COLUMN: Columnist says the best choice is to ‘Choose Jesus’

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

A country song a few years ago was titled, “The Choices We Have Made,” and I thought about the choices we make. Some are good choices, some are bad choices, some are better and some are worse.
The very best choice we can make is to receive Jesus as our savior and follow him. If we do follow Jesus and never look back, all the choices we make will be great ones.
Luke 9:23-26 says, “And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whosever will save his life shall lose it, but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gains the whole world and loses himself or be cast away? For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words of him shall the son of man be ashamed when he shall come in his own glory and in his father’s and of the holy angels.”
I believe Jesus is asking us, what is most important in our life? Is it Jesus? I heard a preacher preaching one time, and he said a few times he had come up on some of his congregation talking before church and he never heard any of them mention Jesus’ name. They were always talking about cutting hay or tobacco or ball games, or what they were going to do next week.
Christians, now let’s examine our Christian life. If we have really chosen Jesus as lord of our life, don’t you think he should be top priority in our life?
This does not mean we cannot talk about other things – it means he is first in our life, no matter what we are doing. Even though we are talking about other things, within our heart we need him to guide our conversation.
Hebrews 13:5-6 says, “Let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as ye have, for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. So we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper; and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
