COLUMN: Country struggles with sexual immorality

-A A +A

I enjoy writing in the Magnet on the church page and I am always getting good comments about it. One person in a high government position told me that he read my article every week and said he really enjoyed it, but he thought the safe sex article I wrote was the best of all.
I assured him [abstinence] was the only way that was 100 percent safe and he said he agreed.
The reason I wrote it was that safe sex was being taught in school and a lot of government officials were taking a stand for same sex marriages and neither went to the Bible for an answer. The school has a sex education class which teaches our children how not to get pregnant and how to avoid several diseases, which a lot of the time doesn’t work.
I believe sexual immorality is one of the biggest sins we have in our country today. The amazing thing is that committing adultery is no longer adultery, it’s an affair. But I believe God will still judge it as adultery. Another thing I believe is that I don’t think a lot of people know the difference between love and lust.
Now let’s go to the Bible and see how it is meant to be.
1 Corinthians 7:1-9 says, “Now concerning the things of where of ye wrote unto me. It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless to avoid fornication let every man have his own wife and every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence; and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body but the husband and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud ye not one the other; except if be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your inconsistency. But I speak this by permission and not commandment. For I would that all men were even as myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God; one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry, for it is better to marry than to burn.”
It sounds to me like the Bible is very serious about sex and marriage.
