COLUMN: God’s grace can overtake the difficult days

As we look at the grace of God, we see how God loved us. We also see how the grace of God took dominion over us.
Ephesians 2:4-9 says, “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ (by grace we are saved) and hath raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.”
As we look at these verses in the Bible, we have to know, had it not been for God’s love, mercy and grace toward us we would all be condemned because we cannot be good enough or work hard enough or be smart enough.
Some people I have talked to think belonging to a church will take them to heaven. Some of our public officials running for office make statements like this: “My grandfather was a preacher, my father was a preacher.” But most always they do not tell what they are and I can assure you this is not going to do them any good when they stand at the judgment seat of Jesus Christ.
One person told me he wanted me to preach his funeral when he died. I told him I would if I was alive, but he could make it a lot easier if he would change his ways. He responded, “I know when I get up there I will have a lot of explaining to do.”
I assured him that his explaining days would be over. I believe a lot of people believe the same thing he believed. This man admitted he had a bad sinful habit. I assured him that he did not have anything too big for God to handle.
I believe two of the biggest tricks the devil plays on the people who have not accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior is: Why get saved? You cannot live it or you cannot give up the sinful habit you have. But I can assure you, God’s grace can take you through any difficult time you have.
