The Declaration of Independence, written in 1776, states that the pursuit of happiness is, along with life and liberty, to be an inalienable right. It may be that the Founding Fathers expected that we as citizens of this great country would be happy. Well, maybe they could have also assumed that this “pursuit” would include many of this world’s goods, including the gadgets that are so plentiful and the accumulation of our modern-day conveniences could somehow make us happy. Well, maybe they assumed that. But, maybe they could have been wrong.
