COLUMN: The healing power of Jesus

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

I read an article stating that the Muslim religion is a good religion. You know, I have never read that being born again through the blood of Jesus Christ is a good religion. Here is what I believe: being born again through the blood of Jesus Christ is the only religion that will give you eternal life.
The reason I believe in being born again through the blood of Jesus Christ is because it happened to me. When this happened, Jesus came and he lives in my heart. How do I know that he is alive in my heart? Every time I preach, and every time I witness, he comes alive in my heart. Well, really, I can just mention his name and he comes alive. What a great feeling, just to know I am the brother of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 12:50 says, “For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister and mother.”
Some people have accused me of being religion crazy. This really gives me a great feeling – just think, they think I have fallen off the deep end for the love of Jesus Christ.
I remember when I was judge-executive, some people would call me and say, “I hear you believe in healing.” I would say, “Sure do, don’t you?”
They would reply, ”Yes, but my mother has cancer or some dreaded disease.”
If we really believe in healing, there is no “but” about it.
Look at James 5:14-15: “Is any sick, among you? Let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick and raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”
I will never forget, I was in a lay mission weekend with a well-known heart surgeon. We had a great weekend.
About four weeks later, I had a heart attack. When I went to see a heart surgeon, this same doctor was an associate with him and he was there. I asked about him and told the nurse I had spent the weekend with him about four weeks ago.
It wasn’t long until the door of my room was opened and the doctor that was with us on the lay mission weekend was there. The doctor asked me what I was doing there.
I said, “Boy, they say, I really had a good one.” I will never forget his response: “Where is your faith?”
I responded, “Doctor, I thought I had the faith to move the rock of Gibraltar, but it just hasn’t happened.” He told me we would pray.
He said, “First of all, you must know, we doctors cannot heal anyone. We can do what we are taught to do, but God has to do the healing. Now, we are going to pray, we know most everyone knows God can heal you, but you are going to have to believe he will.”
That was 36 years ago. I was healed by God and didn’t have to have an operation, and have never had any heart trouble since. Do I believe in healing? You better believe I do.
