COLUMN: Sin will destroy us

-A A +A
By C.L. Glasscock

The first article I wrote in the paper, I wrote about hell. If you really want to go there, it is very easy. We were all born in sin, and if we don’t do anything, or if we don’t dedicate our life to Jesus Christ we will be sure and make it to hell.
I heard a preacher preach my nephew’s funeral, and he said he had asked him, do you believe that Jesus Christ came to earth, lived and died, and rose again for your sins, and he said he did but did not go to church.
I believe we could go to town and go down the street and ask everyone we come in contact with the same question. I think most of the time, we would get the same answer, because I believe most people believe that Jesus did the same for them. I also believe most people believe it takes a lot more than that to miss hell and go to heaven.
2 Peter 2:4-6 says, “For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly.”
As we look at 2 Peter we see how God hates sin. We see how he cast the angels down to hell that sinned; we see how he destroyed the entire old world with a flood that sinned. We see how he turned Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes for sin.
The most danger I see about our country is we try to make excuses and look past sin, or a lot of people want to treat the word of God like a historical document.
Now that happened to those angels and God brought the flood and rained fire and brimstone upon Sodom and Gomorrha, but that happened years ago. That is not going to happen to us. When Jesus came he changed all that.
If this is true, I wonder why Peter – his most beloved disciple – brought it up. He sent the angels to hell for sin; destroyed the world for sin; destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha for sin. What about America?
Don’t you believe we will be destroyed for sin the same way? I do.
