COLUMN: Springing into fall with full lineup of events

-A A +A
By Curtis Ochs

When you read this article, fall will be several days old. Where did summer go? Due to the unusual weather conditions, we have just wrapped up our Summer Roadside Litter Abatement drive.
The recycling center has gotten used to the new baler we got through a Kentucky Pride grant from the Division of Waste Management at Frankfort.
Our students have gotten settled in their classrooms for the next year of learning.
But we have so many activities coming up in October that we will not have time to sit down.
The first week of October will bring us the annual Octoberfest, with different activities scheduled throughout the week. We will have pageants, a 5K run (that benefits the Lane Goodwin Childhood Cancer Foundation), food and drink, crafts, car show, a big parade and live music, featuring Judge Angus.
As your solid waste coordinator, I encourage each and every attendee to use the existing trash and recycling containers that will be on site at convenient locations.
Also, do not forget, if you burn the rubber off your tires getting back and forth for the events, we will be holding a waste tire amnesty at the Spencer County Road Barn on Fairgrounds Road on Friday, Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 8 a.m. until noon.
We have much talent and people with a lot of love for our county that want only the best for their fellow citizens. The month of October will be a showcase of the dedication put into the efforts made to have Spencer County not only a place to visit, but also a fine place to call home.
Have a great fall.
