Those of us who live busy lives, those of us who are getting older, those of us who are dealing with both, are so thankful for the invention of the sticky note. Did you know it started with a guy looking for a way to bookmark his Church hymnal? Art Fry wanted a bookmark for his hymnal that wouldn’t fall out or damage the page. He happened to know Spencer Silver who worked at 3M who had invented glue that stuck pretty well, but wouldn’t leave a mark. Suddenly…BOOM, 3M had the Sticky Notes that have changed our lives. (Go to inventor.about.com for more info.)
Now on any given day these Post It notes (the trademark name) or as I call them, sticky notes appear everywhere. They show up on legal papers showing you where to sign. They are plastered around computer screens in almost any office. They keep our grocery lists and our to do lists, they even show up on my mirror to remind me to take out the trash! Those little reminders help us keep our lives in order; they help us remember what is important.
The Lord wants us to remember what is important as well. That is probably why he uses the word “remember” over 200 times in the Bible. Sometimes He is telling us what He will remember, sometimes we are asking Him to remember, but often the Lord is telling us to remember. “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” (Exodus 20:8 NIV) “Remember your Creator in the days of your youth… (Ecclesiastes 12:1 NIV) Jesus even tells us, “Remember the words I spoke to you…” (John 15:20 NIV)
Those sticky notes we use every day can also be used to help us honor God. For example you might write a verse on a note and put it up on your mirror to encourage you. Someone might ask you to pray for them and you could put that reminder on a note and stick it on your Bible. Maybe there is something you need to give thanks for, put it on a sticky note and tack it to your computer.
What is God telling you to remember? Do you remember the daily blessings of God? Do you remember to give Him thanks? Do you remember the times when God held you through the storms of life? Do you remember His word? Today take time for God, to remember His goodness and kindness. Take time to honor Him. Take time to let him stick his love notes on your heart.
