COLUMN: Where are we as a nation?

-A A +A

In this article I want us to see where we think we are as a nation. “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever. Arise, 0 Lord, let not man prevail: let the heathen be judged in thy sight. Put them in fear, 0 Lord, that the nations may know themselves to be but men.” Psalm 9:17-20
“Only if thou carefully hearken into the voice of the Lord thy God to observe to do all these commandments which I command thee this day. For the Lord thy God blesseth thee, as he promised thee and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow and thou shall reign over many nations, but they shalt not reign over thee.” Deuteronomy 15:5-6
As we look at our nation today, have we kept these commandments? Isn’t it scarey to just think we elect the kind of leaders we do. Every time we elect a corrupt leader, if he or she does not follow the Lord, we fall a little closer to hell. The trouble is most of our leaders think they know more than God and they do not listen to him.
As we look at Deuteronomy 15:5-6 we see a commandment to us as a nation that we have not kept. Does this mean if we borrow from other nations they will reign over us? I really believe this is true. I also believe if we do not come back to God as a nation, God’s wrath will come down upon us and destroy our nation. Most of us like to preach about God’s love, which is really great, but God’s wrath is really terrible. Take a look at Revelation 6:12-17 and see how terrible God’s wrath really is. Here we see the lamb of God opening the sixth seal. “ And 1 beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood, and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as the fig casteth her untimely figs when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together, and every mountain and island were moved out of their place. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb For the great day of his wrath is come and who shall be able to stand.”
One question: How many great leaders do we have that will be able to stand under the wrath of God?
