Cross country performs well at Nelson County meet

     The Spencer County Cross Country team performed well in the rural setting of the Nelson County Hillbilly Run on October 4th.  This was the tenth annual running of the “shoes optional” event.

     In the cool early morning temperatures, Laura Klotz led SCHS in the 3.1 mile girls JV race, placing 7th in 22:24.  Whitney O’Dell placed 11th in 23:15, and Bethany Crews 28th in 24:54.

     In the girls varsity 5K Chelsey Talley finished in 8th place with a time of 20:54, while Christina Shawver was hot on her heels in 11th place with 21:00.

     Cory Kleinjan and Sam Meredith placed 3rd and 4th respectively in the boys varsity run.  Kleinjan finished the 5K run in 17:26, while Meredith was clocked at 17:50.

     Mike Williams led SCHS in the boys JV race finishing in 30th place, Matthew Goodlett placed 31st, and Gabriel Minnot rounded out the SCHS runners finishing in 51st place.

     The girls middle school 1.8 mile race featured another win by Charliann Garcia, as well as a 17th place finish by Adrian Gregory.  Summer Hughes finished in 44th place with a time of 17:17.

     The boys middle school runners placed 6th in team scoring, led by Travis O’Dell’s 7th place finish in 12:31.

He combined with Andrew Sharp(19th), Korey Searcy(47th), Steven Tiller(58th), Noah Williamson(75th), Kaleb Spalding(93rd), and Josh Talley(105th) for their sixth place team score.

     In the boys elementary 2K run, third grader Jack Meredith battled to the finish line to secure a 3rd place finish in a time of 8:35. 

     The team will take next weekend off due to Fall Break, but will be back in action on October 18th.
