Currie named runner-up in state shotput

Members of the SCHS Track team attended the AA State Meet at the University of Louisville track on Friday.

Senior William “Big Will” Currie placed second in the shotput competition, throwing 52’6.5”.  He can now carry with him the title of state runner-up as he continues his athletic career at Morehead State in the fall, where he will both play football and throw shotput.
Travis O’Dell also took a stand on the medal podium, placing seventh in the 2-mile run with a time of 10:02, a new personal record for the SCHS junior.
Teammate Shawn Boykin finished ninth in the 100-meter dash, narrowly missing earning a medal.   
The boys’ team sent two relay teams to state as well. Travis O’dell, Kynan Smith, Blake Richardson and Steven Dewitt placed 17th overall in the 4x800 meter relay, while in the 4x200 relay, Kaden Smith, Chase McIntosh, Gavin Boykin and Shawn Boykin finished 15th overall.
Kayla Nigh was the only member of the girls’ team to qualify for state. She finished 18th in the 200-meter dash.
