Dean Milk is recruiting additional farmers to supply milk directly to the plant. Called Dairy Direct, Dean Milk’s direct sourcing program will allow the plant to build stronger business relationships with local dairy farmers it knows and trusts, while providing the plant with more information about the farms and cows behind the Dean Milk brand.

Dean’s Dairy Direct program expansion launched in October and farmer interest has been very strong. The company continues to meet with interested farmers, and the program is expected to reach capacity soon. To guarantee consideration, farmers should sign up by November 30, 2009.

“We already source milk from many farmers in the region who supply directly to us versus through a third party cooperative or service,” said Ronnie Rider, Milk Supply Manager. “This program is an extension of that and we want to be sure farmers who are interested don’t miss out on the opportunity, so we are encouraging them to act now.”

Farmers who are part of Dean Milk’s Dairy Direct program receive a competitive price, a local home for their milk, and the chance to have a business relationship with an organization committed to growth and innovation.

“As a leading local dairy, our number one priority is producing the most wholesome and safe milk products for moms and families.  We want to be sure it is the very best and we believe local farmers are key to this,” said Danny Jasper, plant manager at Dean Milk.

In addition, the company says direct sourcing further strengthens the quality and security of its milk supply. This helps satisfy increasing consumer demand to know more about where food comes from.
