Education - Spencer County High School ready for new year

-A A +A

Welcome back to school Spencer County High School Bears.

Summer has flown by.  We have been working all summer to get things ready for the 2016-17 school year.  The faculty and staff of Spencer County High School are looking forward to having our returning students and our new students walking through the doors on August 10th.  We are looking forward to meeting all of our students on Back to School Night on August 4th, 5 to 8 p.m.  From 5 to 6 p.m., students and parents will come to the main gym and pick up student schedules and information as well as pay student fees.  At 6 p.m. you will be reporting to your first period class.  We will run through our seven period day so students and parents will have an opportunity to meet all their teachers.  Classes will last 10 minutes with a five minute passing time.  During this class time, the teachers will tell about the class and the type of supplies you will need for the year.

As always, we have many opportunities for students to get involved in different activities during their time at SCHS.  We have numerous athletic and extra-curricular teams and clubs – something for nearly every interest.  Fall sports (football, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, cross country, girls’ and boys’ golf, dance and cheer and band) have already started practicing.  Several of our FFA teams have been practicing and competing all summer.  Other clubs have had conferences this summer.  So several of our students have already finished their summers and been involved with what we have going on.  Once school starts, students will have opportunities to get involved with our different clubs and other activities that we have.  Research shows that students are more successful in school when they get involved in activities outside of the regular school schedule.  We suggest all students be involved in something extra-curricular.

On our first day of school, all students will need to pick up a new schedule in the main gym.  This schedule will be a different color from any other schedule they may have and will need this schedule to get into their classes for the day.  All students will report to the gym when the bell rings for a school wide assembly.  Students will be dismissed from the gym to their first period class and the day will begin from there.  In the mornings when students arrive at school, they are to report to one of three places – cafeteria, gym or library.  Once there, they will stay until the bell rings to dismiss to class.

We here at SCHS look forward to working with you, the parents and guardians, to ensure your child gets a quality education during their time at SCHS.  We are proud of the many opportunities that we can offer your child no matter what their future plans are for life after high school.  We push to have all of our graduates College/Career ready so they will have the opportunity to have a good quality of life post high school.  SCHS gets so much support from the Board of Education and our district leaders that we feel the quality of education your child receives from SCHS will enable them to be successful in life.

A weekly newsletter is sent out from the high school office on e-mail.  To make sure you receive this newsletter, we need to make sure we have all the information needed from you.  Please look over the forms that your high school student will be bringing home in the first few days of school – sign and return the forms that are needed to school.  Also, please visit our High School website for Infinite Campus information, up to date calendar of events and information to stay informed.   If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

We look forward to another wonderful school year!

GO BEARS!!
