Suspects who are still at large were dealt a shocking blow last Thursday when an attempt to steal copper from a local Kentucky Utilities electric substation went drastically wrong.
The suspects cut through a fence and entered the KU substation at 5729 Highgrove Road between 2 and 3:30 p.m. on June 28, according to Kentucky State Police. According to KSP, the suspects cut the wrong ground wire during the theft, causing three transformers valued at $10,000 each to explode.
