High school seniors from Anderson, Shelby and Spencer Counties will have a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes in a local courtroom. District Court Judge Donna Dutton will select local students to spend a day with her serving as Junior Court Clerks.

“This will be a terrific opportunity for our local seniors who are interested in going into the legal field to see the judicial process at work,” said Judge Dutton. “No matter what area of the law you are interested in - whether you want to be an attorney, police officer, or work in public service - the District Courtroom provides an excellent opportunity to see all of these professionals at work.”

Students must submit essays, no longer than a page, explaining why they want to serve as a Junior Court Clerk to Judge Dutton by May 15, 2009.  Each of the students selected will have a chance to spend a day with Judge Dutton in District Court over the summer.

Entries can be mailed or dropped off to Judge Dutton at 535 ½ Main Street, Suite 9, Shelbyville, Kentucky  40065-1133. For additional information, email  donnadutton@kycourts.net or call 633-7359.

Dutton began serving as District Court Judge in January 2007.  She represents the 53rd Judicial District which encompasses Anderson, Shelby and Spencer Counties.
