Spencer County Farm Bureau is sponsoring a “Measure the Candidate” forum for county judge executive candidates. on Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m.
According to organizers all eight of the county judge executive candidates have agreed to participate in the event which promises to be an opportunity for citizens to hear the candidates and the issues.
“We hope enough people will take an interest in the event,” Spencer County Farm Bureau President John Crenshaw said. “We want to allow people the chance to listen to the candidates and decide who they feel is qualified to do the job.”
A committee of Farm Bureau leaders agreed on the questions that the committee felt are the most important to the county. Crenshaw said that the questions are ones that candidates should be able to answer relatively easily if they have the proper knowledge and background for the position.
The event will be moderated by Farm Bureau Director of Member Services Dwight Greenwell. Greenwell said that the forum includes six questions which candidates will have from one to two minutes to answer. Each candidate will have a brief opening and closing statement. Names will be drawn in order to determine the order of the introductory statements and the candidates will be rotated for the questions and closing remarks.
While judge executive candidates prepare their closing remarks, other candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the audience and make a brief statement.
Greenwell said that while Farm Bureau has participated in forums in the past this is the first one he was involved in arranging. He said that several members began working on the project a few months ago and that the organizing committee met twice before finalizing the current plan.
“I would think there would be quite a bit of interest from citizens who desire to better educate themselves on election issues,” Greenwell said.
