FFA takes top honors at state fair

The Spencer County FFA had a banner year in the Kentucky State CDE competitions in 2010, taking first place in 9   state CDE events, a state record.


The Dairy Judging team consisting of Stetson Baird, Jacob Walker, Lauren Brown, and Alie McGaughey  bested 44 other teams to take top honors.

Agronomy team members   Shelby Hall, Cecilia Petersen, Colling Travis, Brennan Noel, and Marianne Gaddie   were first among eighteen teams.  Brennan was high individual, and the team had the top four individual members.

Members of the Floral Design team were   Susan Mann, Courtney Cox, Nora McCoy, and Hannah Clayton.   They were first among eighteen teams.

Taking first in the Meats Judging contest were Emily Humes, Rachel Keys, Jamison Nethery, and Jane Webster.    Emily was high individual and they also had the top four scores in this contest. 

Cecilia Petersen was also winner of the state seed identification contest, and the welding team of Justin Goodlett, Gabe Stodghill, and  Wesley Kendall participated, but their results were not known as  of press time.

All four of the CDE teams will next participate in the national contest in October at Indianapolis.   The five other teams which have qualified earlier in the year were Parliamentary Procedure,  Poultry, Ag Sales/Service, Farm Management, and the Ag Marketing Plan.  

Sam and Sarah Perry tied for top overall individual honors in the tobacco exhibit at the state fair.
