The Footie Chicklets, a Spencer County Soccer Association U10 girl’s team, won the Kohl’s American State Cup tournament hosted in Bardstown and sponsored by US Youth Soccer.

The Chicklets were determined to prove that they were the best team in the state, said Coach Mike Heuglin, and did so very decisively by defeating teams from Nelson County, Lexington, and Bardstown to get to the finals game against the South Nelson Fast & Furious.

“The Chicklets made sure this game did not end in a tie and go into kicks from the mark as they did last season while losing the championship by one goal,” said Heuglin.

The team made sure of this by simply winning the game at both ends of the field and defeating South Nelson 5-1 in the championship game.

“The Chicklets play with a lot of heart, skill, and a passing game that is second to none in the past four seasons.  They just play the game beautifully and never give up,” said Heuglin. “The Footie Chicklets’ motto is Team First, Mwe Second and it not only shows on the back of their shirts, but on the field the moment they step onto it.”
