The Spencer Cross Country team was back in action Saturday, as they traveled to Georgetown, and brought home some hardware from the Scott County Cardinal Classic.

The weather was cold and windy as the girls’ varsity team ran their way to a second place team finish, placing just behind 5th ranked AAA powerhouse Dunbar, and upsetting Scott County by nearly twenty points on their home course in the process.  Charliann Garcia led SCHS with a 5th place finish, combing with Chelsey Talley 6th, Christina Shawver 12th, Adrian Gregory 20th, Laura Klotz 22nd, and Whitney O’Dell 24th, for their team score of 53 points.

The boys varsity team placed 5th in team scoring led by Cory Kleinjan’s 5th place finish in 17:39 on the hilly 5K course.  He combined with Sam Meredith 11th(18:29), Travis O’Dell 33rd (20:43), Jacob Clawsen 36th (21:00), and Andrew Sharp 42nd (22:13) for their team total of 113 points.

In the JV races of the day, Bethany Crews placed 14th for the SCHS girls, and Mike Williams and Gabriel Minnot finished 20th and 23rd respectively in the boys run.

The boys middle school 1.8 mile results included Korey Searcy finishing 35th, and Josh Talley 47th for SCMS, while the

sixth grade members of the team ran in the one mile elementary run.  Isaiah Barmore placed 17th with a time of 6:52, Steven Tiller 20th, and Noah Williamson 27th.  Jack Meredith competed in a special primary division for grades K-3, and placed 6th against some tough competition from Lexington area schools.

The team will attend the final meet of the regular season on October 25th, when they will attack the hills of McNeely Lake Park at the DeSales Invitational.
