The SCHS girls cross country team will advance to the AA State Championship November 15 after capturing the Regional Runner-Up title this past weekend at McNeely Lake Park. Cory Kleinjan and Sam Meredith also advance and will represent SCHS in spite of their full team not qualifying.

Charliann Garcia led SCHS in the girls 5K run, finishing 2nd with a time of 20:18. Christina Shawver placed 4th, Chelsey Talley 6th, Laura Klotz 22nd, Adrian Gregory 23rd, Whitney O’Dell 35th, and Bethany Crews finished in 50th place. The young ladies had a combined score of 53 points just 13 behind Regional champs South Oldham, but thirty ahead of third place North Oldham. This region is likely the toughest in the state, featuring six of the top ten ranked teams. Only the top four from each region advance to the State Championship, meaning that two of the top ranked teams were eliminated from further competition. Both the girls and their coaches feel confident as they prepare for the most important and final meet of the 2008 season.

While the SCHS boys team was also eliminated by their 7th place team finish at regionals, two young men were selected to advance as individuals due to their outstanding performances. Cory Kleinjan placed 7th with a time of 17:23, and Sam Meredith finished 13th in 18:03. Both will line up along with the girl’s team at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington November 15.
