Adrian Gregory, daughter of Ronald and Amy Gregory, has been selected as the Spencer County High School Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar participant.
Madolyn Bennett, daughter of Karen Florence and Mark Bennett, has been selected as the alternate participant.
These students were nominated as HOBY candidates by staff at the high school.
Either Gregory or Bennett will attend one of two leadership seminars taking place in Kentucky in early June.
The purpose of these seminars is to prepare the country’s high school sophomores to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace and community, according to a news release from the high school.
By presenting multiple viewpoints on important issues, the seminar encourages the HOBY Ambassador to evaluate all issues from a critical perspective. The seminar’s question-and-answer format, small group discussions, hands-on service learning experiences, and assumption of leadership roles enable HOBY Ambassadors to better understand leadership and begin to identify their own particular leadership strengths, the news release said.
As part of a commitment to the Presidents’ Summit For America’s Future, HOBY Ambassadors are challenged to complete a minimum of 100 hours of yearly volunteer service.
