GUEST COLUMNIST: Count your blessings

As we celebrate this Christmas and the holiday season with family and friends, I hope we remember to give, to share, to count our blessings, and appreciate the true meaning of Christmas.  This is the season to reflect on what we have achieved this past year with a hope and promise of a new year about to dawn.

Every year as we watch the film, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, and George Baily sees what the world would be like if he had never been born, I’m reminded of how each one of us influences so many other people, and in fact an entire community, whether it’s Taylorsville or Bedford Falls.

And every year at this time as we watch Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, Ebenezer Scrooge gets a second chance at life; a chance to give, to share, and to make the world a better place.

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.  I will live in the past, the present, and the future.  The spirits of all three shall strive within me.  I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.”  (“A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, 1843)

From our house to yours, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
