Habitat success result of volunteer efforts and donations

Thanks to the individuals and businesses that have devoted time and given donations to make our local Habitat a success story. Not only have we been able to build a home, locally - a tithe has been sent to Latin America where a second home was built, through the generosity of Spencer Countians! Last month’s Habitat Board meeting went high-tech and video-conferenced with the Habitat affiliate, in Honduras, where the home was built. They were so appreciative of the kindness shown by our County.

We are now looking for another building site, in Spencer County, for the next house. Even during these tough economic times, it’s amazing to witness the giving spirit that has helped two families, so far. If you have a building site that you would consider selling or donating to SCHFH, please call the Site Selection Chair, Doug Williams, at 477-2149. Remember, donations are tax-deductible to the extent of the law.

JUNE 6: Mark that date on your calendar! That’s the date of the 4th Annual SCHFH Golf Scramble. This has become a very well-received event and is getting larger every year.  The cost is $55 per person or $200 a foursome, which includes 2 carts, greens fees and lunch. There will be great prizes, door prizes and raffle items. Or get your company involved by sponsoring a hole or cart. Leave a message on the office phone – 477-2263 – or email vicepresident@spencercountyhfh.com for more information. A registration form can also be printed out from our website www.spencercountyhfh.com. Join in the fun!!!

This past January, several new chairpersons started their terms and are strengthening the organization with their skills and fresh ideas. Committee members are needed for: Fund Raising, Site Selection, Family Support, Family Selection, Public Relations, Church Relations, Volunteer Relations and Construction. Committees usually meet once a month. If there is a committee you’d like to help out on, please leave a message at the office – 477-2263 – or send an email to chair.volunteerrelations@spencercountyhfh.com.

Remember, Habitat houses are not a hand-out, they are a hand-up to families in need. Let’s keep the ball rolling!
