SCHS cross country suffered disappointments at their Regional meet on November 7th, where illnesses prevented both the girls and boys teams from qualifying for State.

The #4 ranked SCHS girls struggled due to team member Chelsey Talley becoming ill early in the race and being unable to finish.  Her teammates kept on running and placed 5th in team scoring, 25 points behind Presentation.

Unfortunately, only the  top four teams from each region qualify to attend the state meet, and SCHS will not attend as a team for the first time in recent memory.  However, both Charliann Garcia and Christina Shawver qualified as individual runners.

Garcia led SCHS, placing 5th, with a time of 20:36.  Shawver, struggling with knee problems, placed 9th in 21:18.  Sadly, for the rest of the girls the season is now over.

The boys team had difficulties as well, being short a runner due to illness, they also narrowly missed advancing to State.  Led by Cory Kleinjan’s 4th place finish in a time of 17:28, the SCHS boys placed 6th in team scoring, just one point behind Central High School of Louisville.

Kleinjan will advance to the state meet as an individual, while the rest of the boys will rest awhile before beginning to train for the upcoming track season.

Kleinjan, Garcia, and Shawver will attend the KHSAA AA State Championship at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington on November 14, where they will each compete against over 300 runners from across the Commonwealth.
