The Spencer County Lady Bears jumped out to a quick start against Oldham County and played their 8th Region foes close throughout before falling 61-55 at home.

The Lady Bears used a very strong first quarter to build a seven-point lead and held a 19-12 advantage after the first quarter. However, the Lady Colonels stormed back in the second quarter, erasing that lead and went into the halftime break with a 31-30 lead.

The 3-11 Lady Bears wouldn’t go away easily however, and stayed close in the second half and trailed by just five at the beginning of the fourth quarter, 43-38. Oldham County, 11-6 on the season, was able to maintain their lead and escaped with a tougher-than-expected victory.

MacKenzie Myers led the way for Spencer County with 21 points while McKenna Pfeiffer added 17.

The girls’ game Saturday against North Oldham was cancelled because of the snow, but the Lady Bears are slated to be back in action Friday night when they travel to Bullitt Central for a boys and girls doubleheader.

They’ll play a Saturday afternoon game at 1 p.m. when they host Allen County-Scottsville.
