LETTER: Community’s giving spirit makes the difference

By The Staff

In August, 2007, we wrote a Letter to the Editor thanking the community for their support of Habitat for Humanity in our County. A month later, we were officially accepted as a Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

It had taken nearly two years to get to that point. But then things picked up speed.

Nine months after becoming an official affiliate, we selected a Partner Family and a home site was donated! Now, the family is just a few weeks away from moving into the County’s first Habitat house. This happened because of your prayers, donations, untiring support and hours of volunteer labor. A letter to the editor, last week, said, “Is any county of similar size and income as generous as ours?” It’s hard to imagine.

Spencer County Habitat for Humanity and our first Partner Family would like to thank everyone who helped, in any way. There will be a House Dedication, soon, and we want all volunteers to be involved in handing over the keys to the family. Please watch the Magnet for more information. You can also visit our website, www.SpencerCountyHFH.com or call the SCHFH office, 477-2263. The office phone is unstaffed but we will announce the dedication date, on the message, as soon as it’s confirmed.

Be a part of this rewarding organization. There are many ways to help, from donating, becoming a committee member or volunteering for events, to helping with the build, whether that’s serving lunch or hammering nails. Please contact Elisa, Volunteer Chair, at 477-2263 or by email: Chair.VolunteerRelations@SpencerCountyHFH.com.

It’s been a wonderful 2008. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
