LETTER: Fix drainage, levee before building another park

-A A +A
By The Staff

Spend baby spend is the new City of Taylorsville motto. Mayor Don Pay and Chairman John Shircliffe love spending your money for their exterior decorating. I was not aware that the federal and state governments had solved their debt problems, since grant money is being sought for a new city park.

Has the city fixed the flood levee or the drainage problems within the city limits? If the city owns the land containing the ditch, that is over grown and such a hazard, why has the city not been keeping it maintained? If the city can’t maintain their current responsibilities, how can they maintain an entire new park. I believe there is already a park about a half a mile away called Jewell Park.

Few people are aware as of early 2010, Spencer Fiscal Court spent $ 107,000.00 to purchase more flood plain property to expand Jewel Park.

Another $ 2,100.00 and $ 1,500.00 were also spent for research of the property to satisfy bureaucratic red tape. Do you remember in 2007 their cry?

Broke! The occupational tax and insurance premium tax soon followed. A promise was made to remove the taxes if possible. Can you say liars?

Look voters don’t fall for this election year sugar water. You will pay even higher taxes, if you support these projects. It’s called tax and spend, just say no. Can you afford more taxes?

Mr. Shircliffe, I have a grand vision, you pay for the complete park construction and maintenance for the next twenty-five years. Remember Barry Bingham and his huge river fountain. You could be Taylorsville’s next Barry Bingham!

Pay and Shircliffe try to paint themselves as visionaries but are nothing more than socialist elitist. They would be well served to maintain their own personal properties and keep their paws out of the wallets of local taxpayers.

Mr. Shircliffe snakes are not nasty or gnarly, actually beneficial. Snakes eat rats, especially political ones.
