LETTER: Help for families of youth with mental disorders

-A A +A

The week of May 6-12 is National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week. In honor of this week, I would like to share with you an important resource that is available to families that have children with emotional and behavioral disorders and mental health disabilities.

The Kentucky Partnership for Families and Children Inc. is a private, nonprofit advocacy agency that provides support, education and advocacy for these youth and their families. If your child has been diagnosed with a disability that affects his or her behavior and social skills, you can contact KPFC at (800) 369-0533 or visit the organization’s website at KyPartnership.org for more information about your child’s disablity.

Also, Parent to Parent is a support group here in Spencer County that meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Spencer County Extension Office from September to May.

Come get support from other parents who “have been there,” and get new ideas for helping yourself and your child.
