LETTER: Lake clean-up next Saturday

By The Staff

The Taylorsville Lake Conservation Association (TLCA) is once again hosting a lake clean-up on September 27. The event kicks off at the Possum Ridge pavilions at the State Park at 8 am. The clean-up will end by 12 p.m. with lunch, prizes, T-shirts, and an environmental education program from the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife.

The TLCA has sponsored this event for the past 9 years picking up an average of 65 cubic yards of trash each year. The TLCA really wants to call attention to the wonderful participation over the years from our Scouting groups – Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and the Girl Scout Troops in our area. This year is no exception. There are 13 Scout Troops already registered to participate at this year’s clean up. Another set of groups that has really had good participation are the youth groups of our churches. Any group that preregisters with 10 or more participants earns $100.00 (available only to the first 10 registered groups).

The businesses in our community have really been supportive also. They recognize that it is in EVERYONE’S best interest to have a clean, attractive, safe lake available to visitors. Area businesses have donated cash, prizes, gift certificates, and food to the clean-up event. Look for our ad in the Spencer Magnet following the event for a list of businesses that supported the clean-up. The ad will also include a complete list of groups that participated.

Individuals are welcome to participate as well and will be treated to the lunch and education program for their efforts. So gather your family up and head out to the State Park on Saturday September 27 for a morning of good dirty fun all in the name of a clean lake!
