I’m writing in response to the article by Amanda Van Benschoten last week and her concerns about Rand Paul, candidate for US Senate from Kentucky.
Amanda, your article titled “Paul must be mindful of Kentucky’s needs” points out how completely out of touch you are about Kentucky’s needs and indeed what the needs of an entire nation are.
Just like those of children, our needs and our wants are two entirely different things. What Rand Paul is keenly aware of is the overwhelming need for sanity in our nation’s capitol. What our nation needs most is a far smaller federal government and one that respects the rule of law, the constitution. What our nation and Kentucky needs is government that will respect, honor and obey our federal and state constitution before all of our freedoms and liberties are lost in the tidal wave of unsustainable debt and bloated bureaucratic waste, fraud and abuse.
What the TEA party tidal wave that you fear will “drown out the people of Kentucky” is keenly aware of is the exponential growth of the federal government far beyond the bounds of the constitution that will and indeed is drowning us in a sea of red ink and bureaucratic red tape.
One of the grievances that our founding fathers included in our Declaration of Independence (referring to King George) was “He has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”
What Rand Paul understands, beyond the inability of the federal government to continue to run up more and more debt on our backs and those of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, is that the federal government also continues to erect “a multitude of new offices, and [to] send hither swarms of officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.”
Oh sure, there’s no doubt many could be fooled to think reasonable solutions to our problems must always be solved by a seemingly benevolent federal government with an unlimited bank account. Until they are presented with the bill which will of course include the interest on the massive debt!
The TEA (Taxed Enough Already) party tidal wave is made up of Democrats, Republicans and Independent voters that have come to the realization that there comes a time when enough is enough. They recognize that Rand Paul represents their need for sanity in Washington DC. It’s the tidal wave of an out of control federal government and debt that will “drown out the people of Kentucky” and that should be a far bigger concern than what support a politician might purchase with more borrowed money from China.
