LETTER: Something needs to be done

Over the past several weeks I have watched our kids play basketball in the parks and recreations league. Unfortunately there has been some rough play by several teams in the second and third grade age group league. The coaches have not tried in the least to take their teams aside to tell them that this is not acceptable.  All they care about is wins for their team. 

Complaints to Randy Wise, the parks and recreation director, have gotten us nowhere.  His assistant director is a coach in this age group and his team is one of several teams that accepts this type of rough play. 

Games are being refereed by teenagers, which in no fault of their own, just can’t seem to take control of this situation.  They are just kids themselves, who don’t feel they have the authority to reprimand an adult coach.

So, before this situation lands on “You Tube”, we have had to make a sorrowful decision.  This will be our children’s last season in Spencer County basketball.
