LETTER: Still ‘spring cleaning’ Spencer County

-A A +A

By the time you read this, the Spring Roadside Litter Abatement Drive will be completed, the high school students sponsoring a can recycling contest to aid the Humane Society will be finished, and the local police agencies will have completed Spencer County’s second nationwide drug collection initiative to keep unused drugs from being flushed into our water supply.
That was a busy month, but we also have goals for May.
When the water goes down, I am sure we will have a lot of trash, including old tires, to clean up along our streams.
We have events in May, such as the Gourd Show, that will require containing the trash and garbage.
We also will have our spring curbside junk pickup, sponsored by our garbage hauler, Rumpke. The pickup will be the week of May 16-20, with your time being the day of normal garbage collection in your area.
Please do not put out any hazardous materials as Rumpke will be unable to haul them.
We will hold a hazardous waste event later this year and will advertise for a couple of weeks before the day.
If you have any questions or requests, please contact me, your Spencer County solid waste coordinator, at 477-3218, or drop in the office at 220 Main Cross St. behind the sheriff’s office.
