The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life wishes to thank all of Spencer County for their many dedicated efforts, continued hard work and genuine contributions given to this year’s 2012 Relay for Life. An event such as this revolves around many persons and the community of Taylorsville and Spencer County took charge of making this charitable event such a great success. As the American Cancer Society’s charge for Relay includes “Celebrating, Remembering and Fighting Back,” the community of Taylorsville and Spencer County came together to make this phrase not just words but a reality.
We wish to thank all of the businesses that decorated their storefront windows with purple ribbons and Relay for Life messages. The town glows with purple and allows all to see how much we care about our family, friends and neighbors who are fighting this terrible disease.
We wish to thank our sponsors who so graciously supported our event. They are Daughtery’s Body Shop, Jim Williams Body Shop, Norton’s Healthcare, Jewish Hospital, Creekside Medical, JES Systems, Country Mart, CUB Bank, Peoples Bank of Taylorsville, Froman Drugs, Glen and Jane Goebel, Greenwell Brothers Propane, and The Spencer Magnet. Many other groups, businesses and individuals contributed to this event and we thank them for their kindness and generosity.
Our Spencer County Relay Committee made this event possible by recruiting teams, raising money and planning activities that kept our participants motivated throughout the night.
We also wish to thank the teams that were formed because of loved ones fighting cancer, celebrating victory over cancer or remembering those lost to cancer. Those teams were All Saints Catholic Church, Baehr’s Den Collectibles, Hotsy Totsies, CUB Bank, Dawson’s Doodes, Christian Crusaders, Honey Bees and Teddy Bears, 4 Purple Clovers, Spencer County Pre-School, Spencer County Middle School/Board of Education, Rebounders, Taylorsville United Methodist Church, The Brady Bunch, JEMS Hope Network, Carrie On, Roman Gladiators, Treschicas and Team Hope.
Without the help of our Relay for Life Committee this event could not be held. Through detailed planning, monthly meetings and genuine caring for others these individuals shaped the success of Relay 2012. They are: Brett Beaverson - Logistics; Linda Jeffiers, Karen Florence - Sponsorship; Samantha Tanner - Online Chair; Sondra Adams, Mary Beth Thomas, Lori Riddle - Activities; Amanda Fox and Michelle McKinley - Luminaria; Maria B. Thompson - Video; Carol Stratton - Survivorship; Yvonne Trapp, Gail Waldridge - Accounting; Chuck Adams - Ceremony; Chuck Baxter - Master of Ceremonies. A big thank you also goes to “Almost Country” for providing our music for the night and Studio L News for streaming us live to those unable to be with us.
Relay for Life activities will continue until August 31, 2012. At this time our total is over $40,000. If you are interested in contributing to Relay for Life 2012 please contact Joy Thompson at 502-643-1573. We thank you for giving others “hope.” You have made us so proud.
