Spencer County Public Library recently announced a new contest. Entrants are asked to write an essay about a book that they would give as a gift and why.
The best essay in each group will win a book. Entries need to be turned in by Dec. 19.
Groups are as follows:
Toddler to preschool: Parents can write just the title of the book with the name of the child on the back of the paper. When they turn in the paper they can tell a librarian why they chose that book.
Kindergarten through second grade: Write the title of the book and a sentence explaining why you would give the book as a gift. Include child’s name and grade on the back of the paper.
Third through fifth grade: Write the title and author of the book and a paragraph about why you would give the book as a gift. Include name and grade on the back of the paper.
Sixth through eighth grade: Write an essay, 100 words, about the book and why you would give it as a gift. Include name and grade on the back of the paper.
Ninth through 12th grade: Write an essay, 230 words, about the book and why you would give it as a gift. Include name and grade on the back of the paper.
