Lighthouse Baptist Church has put plans into motion for a new addition and renovation project after raising $125,000 in donations and pledges at a recent banquet.

Pastor Patrick Nix said that plans call for a 5,000 square foot, two-story addition that would contain primarily educational facilities, along with a fellowship hall and a small gym.

The entrance of the existing church building would receive a major face-lift with the construction of a 50-foot lighthouse and a large foyer addition. Interior modifications would include expanding the current sanctuary by utilizing space now used for classrooms. Parking at the church would also be added to access upper and lower entry points to the church.

One of the features Nix said he is excited to have incorporated into the design are displays of the church’s core beliefs about the Bible, creation, family and the sanctity of life.

Nix said church members contributed $25,000 in cash contributions and have pledged to give another $100,000 over the next year. With a current membership of 90 worshipers, Nix said the new building could easily accommodate twice that number.

The church has seen consistent growth since starting 10 years ago with only two families, said Nix.

Constructing a church building on pledges is not a new concept for Lighthouse. Their first building was built using the method.

Hopes are to break ground on the project early next spring.
