A line of thunderstorms that brought down trees throughout the region was also responsible for taking out phone lines at the courthouse and judge executive’s office when lightning struck Saturday night.
“It fried the system,” said Judge Executive David Jenkins, who estimated damages between $25,000 and $50,000.
Employees made the discovery Monday morning after arriving at work. The staff at the county clerk’s office closed by mid-day after realizing that they would not be able to process vehicle registrations and other services.
