Five Spencer county youth wrap up their baseball season in fine fashion.  The five boys,  grades 7-9, competed in “The Reel Baseball Experience” 13U tournament located at the Indiana University Southeast this past weekend.  The boys were given the opportunity to practice and compete on the IUS college field.

Their team, the Louisville Athletics, missed advancing to the semi-final game after loosing to the Hoosier Pride in a heart-breaking loss.  This game was different, normally a six inning game with an hour and forty-five minute time limit.  The game was started Friday night and was postponed due to lightning in the top of the 2nd.  The game resumed Sunday morning and after exchanging runs over the course of the game the Athletics found themselves down by two in the top of the 6th.  The Athletics were able to tie the game and sent it into extra innings.

In the 10th inning, it was determined to use international rules and place a runner on 2nd base to assist with a final outcome.  After nearly 3 ½ hours of baseball, the Athletics could not answer in the top of the 10th and the Pride were able to muscle a base hit to score the runner from 2nd in the bottom of the 10th for a final score of 9-8.

The game was well represented by the outstanding pitching efforts of Nathan Conard, Weston Pittman and Blake Lambdin who only gave up 3 runs between them.  Jesse Miller and Travis O’Dell provided key defensive plays and hits throughout the game.  Conard, Pittman and Lambdin will remain as Grizzlies next year while O’Dell and Miller will join the Bears.
