The Spencer Magnet welcomes reporter Mallory Bilger to their news staff. Mallory began working on a part-time basis at the newspaper Sept. 13.

“I think she will make a great addition to our staff,” said Lynette Mason, Magnet General Manager.

Bilger most recently worked as a reporter with the Pioneer News, a Landmark Community Newspaper in Shepherdsville. While a student at the University of Louisville, she was named editor of the Louisville Cardinal. Bilger began her career in journalism nine years ago working for the Spencer Magnet while a student at Spencer County High School.

“I love this community. This is where I grew up. It’s really like coming home for me,” said Bilger, who added that most of her family still lives in the area.

As a staff writer, Bilger will be focusing her attention on the issues that matter to readers in the areas of education and agriculture.

“But this is, after all, a small paper and we have to be prepared to cover any assignment that comes along,” said Magnet Editor Robin Bass.

In the three weeks since she began working at the Taylorsville newspaper, Bilger has already delved into the labyrinth known as Kentucky Core Content Test. She has also explored how taxpayers funds are being utilized by the Spencer County Library and, last week, reported on the opening of a new discount grocery store in Elk Creek.

“Mallory is a talented journalist and will undoubtedly round out our news coverage at the Magnet,” said Bass.

Bilger lives in Mt. Washington with her husband, Gary, and two children, Maggie, 21 months, and Noah, 8 months. She and her family are active members of First Baptist Church in Taylorsville. Bilger is the daughter of Dennis and Judy Bowman.
