Jeff Sopland recently joined The Spencer Magnet staff as its graphic designer.

Sopland, who lives in Shelbyville, is no stranger to the newspaper business. He worked previously for the Marshall Independent in Marshall, Minn., from 2009 to 2011.
“I enjoy the fast pace and getting more involved in the community where I work,” Sopland said. “I like being able to stay abreast of what’s going on around me.”
Customers who rely on Sopland to craft their advertisements can expect great design and attention to detail, he said.
“The customer’s always right — they’ll get what they ask for the first time around,” Sopland said.
Publisher Lynette Mason said Sopland is a terrific addition to The Spencer Magnet staff.
“You may have heard the old saying that, ‘luck is where preparation meets opportunity,’ and this old saying rang true when it came the time for us to seek someone to add to our staff in the graphics department,” Mason said.
“In the course of six weeks, Jeff has proven to be an extremely talented graphic artist, and even more, he fits in with the newspaper staff just perfectly. In his cover letter, Jeff wrote, ‘I know I am the perfect candidate for this job.’ Now, after having him on board for several weeks, I know he was correct in saying so.”
