Making dreams come true at Blue Moon Salon

Faith Wood is living the dream — her dream.
“I’ve been doing hair for 19 years, and it was my dream to own my own salon,” Wood said.
Wood turned that dream into a reality on June 1, 2012, by opening Blue Moon Salon, located at 4809 Taylorsville Road.
The salon has three stylists — Wood, Crystal Whitehouse and Terra Davenport — and offers a range of services from haircuts to color to waxing.
Wood has been cutting hair in Taylorsville for five years, and said that once her family decided to put down its roots in Spencer County, opening her own salon was the next logical step.
Owning a business has its perks, Wood said.
“It’s nice — it’s better than I thought it would be,” she said, explaining that deciding to open your own business can make a person nervous in the beginning. “I’m less stressed here.”
Previously, Wood said she worked on commission and had also rented booths at other salons.
“This is like renting my own booth on a bigger scale,” Wood said, with a laugh.
Wood said her keys to success are committing to her customers and providing good customer service.
“You have to be here when you say you’re going to be here,” she said. “The rest of it is customer service — you have to have a good personality.”
But you also have to love what you do, she said.
“I love it,” she said. “I love making people feel good. When your hair looks good, you feel good. You could be having the worst day, but you get up, fix your hair and put a little makeup on, and you feel better.”
